Inter-chamber grouping

On November 28, the heads of chambers of commerce from over ten countries in the Nordic and Baltic regions gathered to explore potential collaborations.
The day began with the Mayor of Tallinn, Mr Mihhail Kõlvart, warmly welcoming participants to the Jaan Poska Kadrioru residence.
Each chamber of commerce had the opportunity to highlight its principles and present its membership base, while exchanging ideas for global partnerships.

After substantial conversations, participants were transported to Ülemiste City, offering an opportunity to connect with local entrepreneurs, including R8 Tech and Mainor AS.

The day ended with a dinner attended by 5 CAdFE members at Tallinn City Hall, featuring round-table discussions, presentations and conviviality.
CAdFE congratulates the Baltic Business Club for orchestrating this remarkable gathering.

As we enter the New Year, the Business Club for Francophones in Estonia (CAdFE) is delighted to invite you to an exclusive Galette des Rois party.
This year’s celebration promises to be even more special as we’ve chosen a new and vibrant venue in Tallinn.

📅 Date and time: Friday, January 12, 2024, doors open at 6:00 pm and the party starts at 6:30 pm.

🏨 Location: Kota Klubi, located at Kopli 70a, 10412 Tallinn, Harju, Estonia.

The event is free for CAdFE members, but registration is compulsory.
Non-members pay 15 euros.
The ticket gives you access to a welcome drink with bubbles, some savory snacks, and of course, the Galette des Rois!

We are privileged to announce that our talented member François Arnould (www.francois.ee) will prepare the Galette des Rois for this special celebration.
The galette, a delicious flaky pastry filled with almond cream or frangipane, symbolizes community unity and sharing.
Its round shape represents the sun, echoing pagan celebrations of the winter solstice.

About the Galette des Rois

Galette des Rois, or “King’s Cake”, has its origins in ancient Rome, where the festival of Saturnalia was celebrated with feasting and revelry.
Over the centuries, the tradition has evolved, blending with various cultural and religious practices.
The modern incarnation of Galette des Rois is closely associated with the Christian celebration of Epiphany, commemorating the arrival of the Three Wise Men to the baby Jesus, marking the end of the Christmas season.

The addition of the hidden charm, or “fève”, is a relatively recent addition to the Galette des Rois tradition.
Originally, a whole dried bean was used, symbolizing fertility and prosperity.
Today, the bean is often a small figurine, and the person who finds it in his or her portion is crowned king or queen.
The person who finds the bean has the honor of being the temporary monarch, and the delightful responsibility of choosing his or her king or queen.
This adds a playful, inclusive element to the celebration, as the crowned individual shares the joy with others.

The tradition of the Galette des Rois is a significant moment at the beginning of the year for the President of the French Republic, and has a unique aspect.
Since Valéry Giscard d’Estaing in 1975, the Élysée Palace has celebrated Epiphany with a galette that contains no beans.
Indeed, according to the republican rules of the French Revolution, there can be a President at the Élysée… but no king!
Consequently, even if the crowning of the person who finds the bean is purely symbolic, it cannot be accepted within the official residence of the Republic.
Each year, a different boulanger-pâtissier is called upon, because Epiphany at the Élysée is also a wonderful opportunity to showcase and congratulate this delicious savoir-faire.
The Galette des Rois galette made for the French president is usually 1.20 meters in diameter!

A networking evening: CAdFE Business Club's Beaujolais Nouveau celebration in Estonia

Last Thursday, the Club d’Affaires des Francophones d’Estonie (CAdFE) organized a Beaujolais Nouveau celebration in collaboration with the French Embassy.
The event, attended by club members and the local community, was marked by the esteemed presence of H.E. Emmanuel Mignot, recently appointed French Ambassador to Estonia.
His handsome personality and diplomatic skills helped create an atmosphere of warmth and camaraderie.

Wine, cheese and healthy treats:

The celebration continued with a tasting of French specialties.
Attendees savored tasty Beaujolais Nouveau, accompanied by an assortment of fine French cheeses and baguettes.
In a nod to a healthier lifestyle, the event also featured healthy snacks from Fruitiki, adding a touch of balance to the evening’s gastronomic delights. Video of the evening!

Community involvement:

Beyond the exquisite food and wine, the Beaujolais Nouveau celebration served as a platform for networking and community building.
CAdFE members, professionals and individuals from the local community mingled, exchanged ideas and forged bonds that extended beyond the event.

A taste of France in Estonia

The evening promises to be a gastronomic voyage, featuring the culinary expertise of French chef and green cuisine designer Frédéric Jaunault.
France’s ambassador to Estonia, Emmanuel Mignot, will be the guest of honor at the event.

Meet the chef

Frédéric Jaunault is more than just a chef; he’s an ambassador for culinary culture.
Frédéric boasts an impressive track record in promoting the culinary culture of different countries, and top-ranking achievements in competitions such as “Champion de France et Champion d’Europe de sculpture sur F&L” in 2008.
His culinary prowess has earned him several distinctions, the most prestigious being the Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite awarded by the French President in 2017.

A celebration of local products

Frédéric is also an ambassador for the prestigious “Les Étoiles de Mougins” gastronomic festival held in the town of Mougins.
The festival aims to celebrate local garden produce and showcase culinary creativity.

Since 1985, the French tradition of uncorking the first bottles of Beaujolais Nouveau on the third Thursday in November has been a cherished moment for the French.
This year, mark your calendars for Thursday November 16, 2023, as CAdFE (Club d’Affaires des Francophones en Estonie) invites you to join their celebration of Beaujolais Nouveau 2023, with a special welcome for H.E. Mr. Emmanuel MIGNOT, the new French Ambassador to Estonia.

France's attractiveness to foreign direct investment: a CAdFE analysis.

Foreign direct investment (FDI) has played an important role in France’s economic landscape.
In 2021 and 2022, France is set to become one of the main destinations for FDI in Europe.
This article summarizes CAdFE’s analysis on the subject, explores the different sectors and regions that traditionally attract the most foreign investment, and highlights why France remains a preferred destination.

France has attracted considerable foreign direct investment in a variety of sectors and regions.
In the following sections, we provide an overview of the sectors and regions that have historically captured investors.

Key attraction sectors

Aerospace: France’s aerospace industry enjoys an excellent reputation, with major companies such as Airbus headquartered in the country.
The sector regularly attracts FDI thanks to its innovation and global reach.

Agriculture: France’s agricultural sector is a cornerstone of its economy, known for its high-quality products.
Foreign investment in agriculture often targets sustainable and organic farming practices.

Digital: France’s digital and technology sector is booming, particularly in cities like Paris.
FDI in this sector stimulates innovation and supports start-ups.

Important regions

Paris and Ile-de-France region: The capital, Paris, and its surrounding region, Ile-de-France, have always been the epicenter of foreign investment.
The city’s global connectivity and business-friendly environment make it a prime choice.

Lyon and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region: Lyon, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, is an emerging hub for FDI, particularly in the digital and biotech sectors.

Aerospace Valley: Located in the Occitanie region, Aerospace Valley is a hotbed of aerospace investment, attracting leading companies and research institutes.

Nouvelle-Aquitaine region: Known for its agricultural and renewable energy opportunities, this region attracts FDI in sustainable practices.
