Fruitful exchanges between CAdFE and the Lycée CCI du Gard in Tallinn

On June 6, 2024, the Club d’Affaires Francophones Estonien (CAdFE) was delighted to welcome Luc Granier and Christophe Marzials, teachers at the Lycée de la Chambre de Commerce et d’Industrie (CCI) de Nîmes, who were visiting Tallinn from June 4 to 6 as part of the Erasmus program. The aim of this meeting was to explore the possibility of hosting French students from their structure on work placements in Tallinn in companies that are members of our business club.

Fruitful exchanges with Nîmes teachers

Luc Granier, computer science teacher specializing in IT services for organizations, and Christophe Marzials, associate professor of economics and management, came to explore opportunities for collaboration between the CCI Gard high school and CAdFE member companies. Their visit was marked by constructive and promising exchanges.

The CCI Gard Campus: A Partner of Choice
Campus CCI Gard, known for training the talents of tomorrow, offers courses from second year to Bac +5 in high-potential fields such as services, commerce, sales, communication, human resources and IT. Their commitment to adapting training to business needs and opening international doors to their students makes them an ideal partner for our Tallinn business network.
Potential for collaboration with the Gard Chamber of Commerce and Industry
The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss internship opportunities for French students within CAdFE member companies. Discussions also focused on potential collaborations with the Gard Chamber of Commerce and Industry, strengthening the links between our two regions and opening up new prospects for the future.
First steps towards international cooperation
The very fruitful exchanges foreshadowed enriching future collaborations. This meeting is the premise of what CAdFE will soon be able to offer its members. French students could thus benefit from high-quality international work experience, while bringing their skills and dynamism to Estonian companies.
Conclusion
CAdFE is delighted to have been able to exchange views with teachers from the CCI Gard high school in Nîmes. We firmly believe that these exchanges will strengthen ties between France and Estonia, and create valuable opportunities for students and businesses in both our countries. We look forward to future initiatives and collaborations.

Le Bateau Blanc by Xavier Bouvet: A Poignant Story from the Heart of Estonia

CAdFE, the Business Club for Francophones in Estonia, is pleased to highlight the latest book by one of its members, Xavier Bouvet, entitled “Le Bateau Blanc”.
In this captivating novel, the author plunges his readers into the heart of the dramatic events of September 1944, when a small Baltic nation, Estonia, finds itself at a crossroads between the flight of German troops and the imminent arrival of the Red Army.

The story takes place in Tallinn, where Otto Tief and his companions in misfortune are attempting to restore Estonian independence by creating a short-lived government.
Their daring plan is to reach neutral Sweden via a mysterious resistance ship anchored on Puise beach in the west of the country.
However, the wait drags on, endangering the lives of these men and their vision of the rebirth of the Estonian Republic.

The story explores the shattering destinies of these characters, in particular that of Otto Tief, who, through a series of tragic events, is swept up in a spiral of exile and captivity.
Xavier Bouvet skilfully portrays the crucial choices made in September 1944, decisions that have lifelong repercussions.

Beyond the historical intrigue, “Le Bateau Blanc” brings to light other fascinating figures who left their mark on this pivotal era.
Political figures such as former Prime Minister Jüri Uluots and President Päts, as well as literary eminences like the poetess Marie Under and the sulphurous poet Vares alias Barbarus, gravitate around Tief, adding further depth to this saga.
A meeting with the author will take place on February 19 at 18.00 at the Institut Français.

Comment as-tu découvert l’Estonie et qu’est-ce qui t’a poussé à t’y installer?

Estonia began as an unexpected stopover on a trip between Riga and Helsinki.
I fell in love with Tallinn immediately, especially under its blanket of snow when we first met in March 2010.
Each return journey extended my discovery of the country, until my decision, in 2022, to settle there for family and professional reasons.

2. What did you find positive about joining CAdFE?

Working in online opinion analysis, the Club d’Affaires des Francophones en Estonie offers me an ideal platform to meet various professionals active in the country.
The events organized are convivial moments where enriching discussions about Estonia take place, in places I might not otherwise have discovered.
The frequency of the events fits in perfectly with my schedule, enabling me to participate on a regular basis.

Author biography: Born in Metz in 1984, Xavier Bouvet studied history and communications in Leipzig and Paris.
Involved in municipal life in Metz in recent years, he now lives in Tallinn.
“Le Bateau Blanc” is his first novel, the fruit of a long-standing interest in Estonia and three years of documentation.
It marks the start of a promising literary career for this author with a passion for Estonian history and culture.
