Corsica Sole's Expansion in Estonia

Last week’s two milestones for Corsica Sole’s Expansion in Estonia:

On Wednesday, October 2nd, a significant milestone in Estonia’s energy sector was marked with the cornerstone laying ceremony of continental Europe’s largest battery park complex in Kiisa, Estonia. This event represents the most substantial private investment in Estonia’s energy security to date.

The ambitious project is a joint venture called Baltic Storage Platform, bringing together Estonian energy company Evecon, French renewable energy firm Corsica Sole, and investment fund Mirova. Their goal is to construct two battery storage parks in Harju County, boasting a combined power output of 200 MW and a total production capacity of 400 MWh. This infrastructure is crucial for ensuring energy system services after Estonia’s planned disconnection from the Russian energy grid in 2025.

Key figures present at the ceremony included:

Yoko Alender, Minister of Climate of the Republic of Estonia
● H.E. Emmanuel Mignot, Ambassador of France to Estonia
● Michael Coudyser, CEO of Corsica Sole
● Karl Kull, CEO of Evecon OÜ
● Raphael Lance, Head of Energy Transition Funds at Mirova

CCI France Estonie was represented by Vice-Chair Brice Gasnier, underscoring the project’s importance in Franco-Estonian economic cooperation.

The following day, October 3rd, marked another significant event in the region’s renewable energy landscape. The official inauguration of the Baltic States’ largest solar park took place in Kirikmäe, located in the municipality of Lääneranna. This solar park, spread over nearly 110 hectares, boasts a production capacity of 77.53 MW, more than doubling the capacity of Estonia’s previously largest solar
installation. It’s estimated to meet the annual energy needs of approximately 35,000 households.

These back-to-back events highlight Estonia’s rapid progress in diversifying its energy sources and strengthening its energy independence, positioning the country as a leader in renewable energy development in the Baltic region.

The Estonian government has set ambitious targets for renewable energy production, aiming to have 40% of its electricity generated from renewable sources by 2030. Solar energy will be a key part of this strategy, alongside wind and biomass, helping to reduce the country’s carbon footprint and meet international climate commitments.
